FIVE WEEKS …
… to the First Performance of THE DRUMMER BOY OF WATERLOO.
It means so much to me that the premiere will be in Aldeburgh. That wonderful Suffolk coast has been a source of rest, recreation and inspiration almost all of my life. And the links with Britten, too: the first great 20th Century composer whose work I studied in depth. The premiere of Britten’s A MIDSUMMER NIGHT’S DREAM was in the Jubilee Hall in 1960. And the Britten-Pears Foundation provided funds for the commissioning of my fourth String Quartet.
